As I gaze out to this fresh blanket of white
I wonder who created these footprints last night.
Could it be a raccoon scurrying by?
Or that lonely opossum wondering why.
Maybe the coyote who visited last year,
Or could it be a deer, or perhaps even a bear!
Oh, silly me, those feet are so small,
And they visit me often awaiting my call.
‘I see you’ I say on this frosty winter morning.
Sneaking close by me without any warning.
‘Breakfast time’ I holler as she comes on the sly,
Cautiously approaching but no longer shy.
Indebted and grateful for this daily feast,
Hastily munching and crunching, to say the least.
Morsels and warm milk on the menu today
Oh, how I love you, please won’t you stay?
Belly now full with a glorified sway,
Your lovely purr truly made my day.
To some, you are just a feral, but you are so much more to me
See you same time tomorrow, now go off and be free.
